Vintage 1940s–1950s USA Stoneware Covered Casserole

A beautiful piece of vintage American kitchenware, this covered stoneware casserole dates to approximately the 1940s–1950s and is simply stamped USA on the underside.

The warm, creamy tan glaze has a wonderfully understated quality, with vertical ribbing along the lower bowl and lid, simple bands around the rim, and a softly domed lid finished with a substantial raised knob. It is the sort of hardworking pottery that would have been equally at home coming from the oven to the supper table or sitting on an open pantry shelf.

What makes this particular piece especially lovely is its remarkable condition for its age. The glaze remains beautiful and glossy, and the original lid and base have survived together exceptionally well. Its neutral coloring makes it an easy piece to mix with ironstone, yellowware, wooden bowls, crocks, and other early American and farmhouse kitchen pieces.
